Intermediate Transom

The Intermediate Transom is designed to span across the horizontal ledgers of a scaffold bay. Unlike standard ledgers, which fix into the "cups" of the vertical standards, these transoms sit directly on the ledger tubes. They are used to provide intermediate support for scaffold boards when the span between the main standards is too great for the boards to carry the required load safely.

Key Features & Components

  • Jaw-End Design: Both ends are fitted with a specially shaped "jaw" or hook that allows the transom to sit securely over the 48.3mm O.D. ledger tube.
  • Integral Locking Mechanism: Most intermediate transoms include a locking device (typically a small steel flap or gravity lock) on one end. This ensures the transom remains fixed in position and cannot be accidentally displaced or moved along the ledger.
  • Flush Decking: The design ensures that the top of the transom sits at the same height as the ledgers, creating a completely flat and level surface for the scaffold boards to rest on, eliminating trip hazards.
  • Enhanced Load Distribution: By adding these at intervals (e.g., in the middle of a 2.5m bay), they prevent the scaffold boards from sagging or "bouncing" under heavy weight.
  • High Durability: Like the rest of the HIM OVERSEAS system, these are typically Hot-Dip Galvanized, providing excellent resistance to rust and mechanical wear.
