Rubber wheels

In chain-link fencing, a pressed steel rubber wheel is a critical accessory used to support, stabilize, and facilitate the movement of gates.1 Pressed steel is the preferred material for residential and light-commercial use because it is strong, cost-effective, and typically galvanized to resist rust.2

Primary Uses in Chain-Link Fencing

  • Preventing Gate Sag: The most common use is to support the "latch side" of a swing gate. Over time, heavy or wide gates can pull on the hinges and terminal post, causing the gate to sag or drag.3 The wheel carries the weight, relieving stress on the hardware.
  • Rolling Gate Support: For "double drive" or sliding gates that lack a center post, these wheels allow the panels to roll smoothly across the ground during operation.
  • Aiding Manual Movement: They make opening and closing large, heavy gates significantly easier by eliminating the need to lift or pull against the friction of a dragging frame.4
  • Extending Post Life: By transferring the weight of the gate to the ground, the wheel prevents the gate post from leaning over time, which can eventually ruin the entire fence line.
